PLC Public Sector reports:
Following last week’s post highlighting the key issues facing procurement lawyers in 2010, this week we look at more legal developments facing public sector lawyers in 2010, highlighted by editors in some of PLC’s specialist services.
As Donald Rumsfeld once famously said:
“there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don’t know we don’t know.”
With a general election and a possible change of government expected in May and required by June, there will undoubtedly be “unknown unknowns” facing public sector lawyers in the coming year. In the meantime, PLC’s specialist services have been focusing on the “known knowns” and highlighting the key legal developments due in 2010.
Subscribers to PLC Public Sector have access to all content published by PLC’s specialist services. This includes the predictions of:
- PLC Property, who give notable mentions to developments in planning law and how flood risk must be managed.
- PLC Employment, who look ahead to the key employment law issues before the courts, including developments in age discrimination and the Rose Gibb compensation case, and the roll out of the requirements of the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.
- PLC Environment, who highlight key developments in the waste industry, the drive for more energy efficient buildings and the carbon reduction commitment.
- PLC Construction, who look at impending changes to the building regulations and action being taken following the blacklisting and bid rigging scandals.
- PLC Commercial, who draw attention to the proposed changes to the late payment directive (which could impose fines on public authorities that pay invoices late), as well as the Bribery and Equality Bills.
- PLC Pensions, who highlight forthcoming changes to the LGPS and the NHS Scheme.
- PLC Dispute Resolution, who list the changes to the CPR taking effect in 2010.
This post has only touched on the issues highlighted by PLC’s specialist services, click on the links above for full details of these developments and much more. For developments for procurement lawyers, please see last week’s post.
As for the “unknown unknowns”, PLC Public Sector and our colleagues in our specialist services will continue to monitor developments and keep you informed of what you need to know just as soon as it becomes “known”.
