PLC Public Sector reports:

Make sure that you have not missed a key development in your area of the law by reviewing our latest list of recommended actions.

Data protection: anyone advising schools on how to comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 will be interested in the report on this subject published by the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Education: education lawyers interested in special educational needs (SEN) should note that the House of Commons has published a Library Standard Note on the government’s draft legislation on provision for children and young people with SEN.

Employment:  all public authorities will be interested in the latest developments in the government’s proposals to reform employment law.

Parking enforcement: lawyers dealing with the enforcement of unpaid parking charges on private land should be aware that the Department for Transport has published guidance on this under the new Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 regime.

Planning: planning lawyers should note that a series of statutory instruments introducing changes to the planning regime have been made, these include changes to the general permitted development order relating to converting retail/office space to residential use.

Consultations: this week a consultation was published on measures to make fostering and adoption more efficient.
